Background Information-
Deer hunting- Deer hunting started thousands of years ago. American Indians relied on hunting for deer and their meat (venison) for food. They also made clothes and their shelter from the skin (hides) of the deer. The bones and antlers of the deer were used to make decorations and tools for their homes and much more. Even after that, early North American settlers depended on deer. They also ate the venison and made clothes from the hides from the deer. They made money buy selling the venison and hides to stores. (Frahm, Randy. Deer Hunting)
Pheasant Hunting- Pheasant hunting doesn't originate from North America. It started in Asia, Europe, and Japan. In the late 1800's, people from other countries started to bring pheasants over to North America. People started to hunt the pheasant in 1892, after a trip of 50 pheasants came over from China and the population of them rapidly grew. (Martin, Micheal. Pheasant Hunting)
Duck Hunting- Duck Hunting started in the 1600's and 1700's by the American Indians and the early North American settlers. They ate the bird meat and used the feathers for decoration for their clothing. Today, duck hinting is one of the most popular forms of hunting. (Frahm, Randy. Duck Hunting)
Most people hunt for food and recreation, or also just because they like spending time with friends and family outdoors; this I found true by my interviews. Many duck and pheasant hunters hunt birds like that because they enjoy the challenge of moving targets.
Hunters: What They're Like-
The definition of hunting is the pursuit and killing or capture of game and wild animals, (Farlex, . "Hunting." The Free Dictionary.)which is exactly what we did. Before doing my ethnography, I assumed that hunters weren't very nice people. I thought they just liked killing animals, so that's why they would hunt, so they could kill animals. But now i think differently about it. Hunters really hunt animals for either food, or for their hide or even to hang up in their living rooms. When I was at JKB, the division wildlife told me that hunting is a good thing. They said that hunting keeps the population of animals steady, the cirlce of life steady, as well as an area's ecosystem. So hunting isn't all that bad.
Setting and Location-
For location of hunters I wrote about the details of setting on the day I went hunting.
For Hunting, you have to wake up at the crazy hour of 5 o'clock in the morning. This is the time of pitch black darkness and freezing cold temperatures outside. I am at my house and now have to wake up my brother and dad. By the time we leave our house it is still black outside and freezing cold. There aren't any sounds outside until you get to the mountains because most people are still sleeping. We are in our bright orange clothes and driving to go pick up my grandpa. It is very silent in the truck, but on the bright side it's warm, because my dad started the car early. Papa's house is very lit up as ours was very dark in trying to not wake up any family members. We leave my Nane and Papa's house and as we approached our spot where we were going to spot our wildlife, the sun was trying to wake up, slowly coming over the mountains. Many hunters are out here in the mountains, so this is the location of hunters. The mountains. And I will tell you right now, they will not give you any other information about where they hunt specifically.
